Japanese culture was introduced and experienced at booths every two months from January to December. As the name "Calendar" suggests, Japan has many seasonal events and symbolic cultures. In January and February, there was calligraphy and karuta experience, in March and April, a school bag experience in connection with the entrance ceremony, in May and June, an origami experience of helmets and shuriken, in July and August, committee members wore yukata to introduce Tanabata and made tanzaku, in September and October, a ball throwing experience with a sports day theme, a Meijiro drawing challenge in connection with autumn art, and in November and December, a Christmas tree decoration with the goals for the next year. All of the exhibits and experiences were ingenious. In the second half, the whole group had a fun time answering a multiple-choice quiz about Japan and overseas that was useful to know.

About 110 people participated. Since it was Halloween, many people wore unique costumes, which gave us more opportunities to talk than usual. In the costume contest, the winners were maids, Mt. Fuji, and Minions, which were not Halloween-themed costumes. We look forward to seeing even more amazing costumes next year!

Approximately 150 people participated, including international students, regular students, and committee members. Almost all of the 40 international students who came since the fall semester of 2014 participated, and we introduced them one by one. The event started with a greeting from Professor Yamawaki, who always works hard for the committee, and then we played games in small groups, and at the end we had a discussion where we freely interacted with many people. At the end, we formed a circle with a long rock-paper-scissors train!
Public bath 6/15/2014

On June 15th, a total of six people, including five committee members and one international student, went to Takasagoyu, a public bath in Nakano! We thoroughly enjoyed Japanese bath culture, with pictures of Mt. Fuji on the walls inside the bathhouse, a small open-air bath outside, and even coffee milk after the bath. After bathing, we ate soft serve ice cream in the basement of Nakano Broadway, sat on the grass in Central Park and enjoyed chatting, before disbanding in the evening! It was a very fun and relaxing day!
Wind chime making experience 6/7/2014

On the 6th and 7th, we experienced making wind chimes at Shinohara Maruyoshi Wind Chimes in Shin-Okachimachi! A total of 10 people, including 8 committee members and 2 international students, experienced everything from glass blowing to painting. Under the kind guidance of the workshop staff, everyone was able to make their own unique wind chimes. For lunch, we went on "school lunch duty" to enjoy traditional Japanese school lunches! We were able to enjoy a rare school lunch for the international students and a nostalgic one for the Japanese, and we all had a fun time together from start to finish, as if we were back in elementary school. We were able to "try out" Japanese culture, and it was a fulfilling day!
Nakano World Gourmet Tour 5/30/2014

On May 30th, we went to a Spanish/Italian restaurant called La Corona in Nakano! A total of 13 people, including seven committee members, four international students, and two Japanese students, enjoyed Spanish paella and Italian pizza and pasta. We all said "Itadakimasu" (thank you for the meal) in Italian while the Italian international students introduced us to their recommended dishes. The atmosphere was friendly from start to finish, and we were able to ask questions about Italian culture and have fun interacting with each other. Finally, we learned how to say "gochisousama" (thank you for the meal) in Italian, bringing the first Nakano World Gourmet Tour to a close on a happy note!
Watching the Six Universities Baseball Game 5/24/2014

On May 24th, we went to Meiji Jingu Stadium to watch the six university baseball game (Meiji University vs Rikkyo University)! A total of 10 people cheered in the heat.
As it was the final stage of the six university baseball tournament, the game was very exciting, and all the participants enjoyed watching the game while singing the school song and cheer song. The result was a 7-1 victory for Meiji University! With Meiji's easy win, it was a very exciting day until the very end!!
